My research will be focused on immigrant students or
students from immigrant families from Latin America that are affected by the
different cultural changes. These students come from homes where Spanish is the
main language. With their living conditions and different cultural background
their academic performances in states tests and for their grade level have
resulted to be lower than average. With that being said we do experience a high
level of students from immigrant parents or themselves being from Latin
America, predominantly from Mexico. In result to this research I want to
conclude with finding an affective program or teaching tool that has benefited
these students in their academic performances. My research will be
from scholarly articles and research that have been already done, I would like
to take that research and see how it can benefit Utah’s education system in
helping our students succeed.

Good sources used, JSTOR is a great one to use. This topic seems like it will continue to get more attention, firsthand experience will go a long way, keep trying to come at it from new angles and keep it fresh.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of doing my own research. I have thought about interviewing older students that fall in this category. Thank you for your feedback.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good and relevant topic. You also have some good sources here.
ReplyDeleteNext step: Since you seem to have narrowed your topic down to what helps these students educationally you will want to find sources that address that specifically (not instead of but in addition to what you've found here).
I wonder if any one has done studies about your research question. If not it seems like there SHOULD be, don't you agree?
I look forward to finding out.
Noelia,
ReplyDeleteDoing your own research is a wonderful thing. You will need to file a research proposal with the UVU IRB (Institutional Review Board), when you're ready. Have you any experience with writing an IRB proposal? You may have taken Prof. Namie's class on methods (or another similar) that would have prepped you for this. It's a fantastic and valuable learning experience to design your own research and put it through the IRB process, but you'll definitely want to plan ahead and budget your time accordingly.
